A brief history: Kushabhau Thakre Hall has served as the legislative assembly for Madhya Pradesh for four decades following the state’s formation in 1956. Originally constructed in the early 20th century, the hall was intended as a royal retreat by the last of four successive generations of women rulers, known as the Nawab Begums, who governed the former Bhopal State from 1819 to 1926. Despite its intended purpose, the hall was never used as a retreat. Instead, it functioned as the headquarters for the Bhopal army and later as Hamidia College, before being repurposed as the first assembly building for Madhya Pradesh.
